Top 5 Tips

Flea market

The flea market is one of the best-known traditions of King’s Day. From early in the morning, blankets and stalls spring up all over the city. You’ll find all sorts of things there: from vintage clothes and books to toys, records and unexpected treasures. The Vondelpark in particular is known for its children’s flea market. Flea markets can also be found in various Amsterdam neighbourhoods, including Oud-Zuid.

A party in town

King’s Day is much more than just the flea market. There are events and celebrations all over the city, ranging from small-scale neighbourhood festivals to large-scale organised events. Prefer something a bit more low-key? Take a stroll through Oud-Zuid, visit a museum or find a terrace and watch as the city slowly turns orange. For the latest events and the programme, it’s best to check Amsterdam’s official calendar.

The canals on

There is perhaps no better way to experience King’s Day in Amsterdam than from the water. On this day, the canals provide a colourful backdrop filled with boats and revellers. Please note: special boating regulations apply on King’s Day and the waterways are extremely busy. You should therefore always check the current regulations in advance.

Explore the city early in the morning

King’s Day gets off to an early start. Head out onto the streets before the crowds really build up and explore Amsterdam as the city slowly turns orange. A stroll through De Pijp, Oud-Zuid or along the smaller canals will show you a completely different side to King’s Day.

Start the day gently with a typical Amsterdam breakfast

Start the day with coffee and breakfast before heading out into the hustle and bustle. After that, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Amsterdam. A leisurely start makes a long King’s Day much more enjoyable.
